I had the pleasure of going to the soft opening of Spice Bros Montreal in June 2018. The second you walk in, the smell of butter chicken and spices hits you, and you immediately start drooling. The décor at Spice Bros is so cool, vibrant and colourful. You can tell from the energy of the small restaurant that there’s a young vibe here, and that they’re trying something new.
They are essentially bringing street food from India to the West Island, and I couldn’t be happier. They’ve been able to create buzz around their restaurant through their growing Instagram following #butterchicken #yummy
I got to sample quite a lot of the menu and to be honest, loved everything. Below is a list of the menu options I tried, in order of preference (though everything was delicious):
- Fish Pakora (little fried nuggets of flaky, moist fish)
- Butter Chicken Custom Bowl (the flavour combinations + how filling it is comes down to what you choose as your base and toppings. I suggest 1/2 grilled veggies 1/2 rice as a base to soak up that butter chicken sauce)
- Chicken Tandoori Naanwich (drool worthy but please note it’s very messy to eat!)
- Chana Samosa (a veggie samosa chopped up with yoghurt, pomegranate seeds, tomato chunks and cilantro on top)
- Custom made butter chicken bowl for lunch including: butter chicken, corn, cabbage, lettuce, cilantro, tomatoes, with a base of 1/2 grilled veggies & 1/2 white basmati rice, topped with cilantro mayo sauce
I’ve been back for lunch since and while the line-up is long, it’s worth the wait. Delicious flavours and endless combinations are possible. What’s cool is you can create a trio with a drink and a side like garlic naan bread or a samosa (how can you go wrong?)
Looks like you guys are killing it! For flavourful, fun and fast-casual Indian food, check out Spice Bros Mtl. I will be going back!
